Description: Brooklyn Dodger founder Charles Byrne presentation cane c.1890s. Polished deep black wooden cane with gold colored metal handle which has been engraved, "Presented to Charles H. Byrne by Capt. S.S. Brown." Byrne was part of the group who raised the money to found the "Brooklyns" (whom later became the Dodgers) and served as team President and briefly as Manager. Although not definitive, it is likely that Capt. Brown was the then noteworthy Pittsburgh resident best known as a thoroughbred owner. The cane was clearly used with scattered mostly light wear (more prominent at end). Stamped "2 141" with stylized maker's mark: EX-EX/MTEstimated Price Range: ($500-$1,000)
