Description: 1984 Louis Lipps Sporting News NFL Rookie of the Year trophy. Significant trophy as presented to Louis Lipps following his Rookie season continuing a tradition began in 1955 with awarding of the first to Alan Ameche. 8" Square wooden platform base supports a life-sized figural metal football. Engraved metal placard on base front reads, "The Sporting News/Marlboro 1984 NFL Rookie of the Year, Louis Lipps, Pittsburgh Steelers." Exhibits minor scattered wear to wooden portion and tarnish to figural. (3) Major bodies vote and award Rookie of the Year trophies among NFL players; The Sporting News, the Pro Football Writers of America, and the Newspaper Enterprise Association.
