Lot Number: 381

Description: Mickey Mantle professional model baseball bat c.1961-63. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 31.7oz. The bat displays in a fine original deep brown patina with excellent visible use including ball marks, pine tar residue, stitching impressions (deep), rack marks, and "H" style handle crack. Model #B220 stamped on knob end along with vintage "39" written in black marker. Based on the number 39 on the barrel end we can assume that either Jim Coates or Steve Hamilton used the offered bat along with Mickey Mantle. The usage characteristics clearly indicate use by Mantle including ball marks on both sides of the barrel from a switch hitter. Mantle was obviously a switch hitter while neither pitcher, Coates or Hamilton, had that ability. Furthermore, the presence of pine tar residue at mid handle is consistent with numerous other documented Mantle game bats. As such, it is our belief that the majority of the game use present on the offered bat was in fact from Mickey Mantle. Very attractive period specimen with strong display and usage qualities. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions and PSA/DNA: EX
