Description: Rare Baseball themed Waltham pocket watch c.1887. Highly desirable open face timepiece by the well known Waltham Watch Co. displays a 1.75" diameter white face upon which a baseball player or scene is displayed at each hour position. At center is a specialized company logo comprised of crossed bats and ball with company name "Waltham" in a banner below. "American Waltham Watch Co" is lettered in semi-circle at lower portion. Combination of interior serial number stamp (3607721) and "P.S. Bartlett" marking confirms date of production to have been c.1887. Exhibits general exterior usage and handling wear with scuff to metal at 10 o'clock postion and several other minor scattered nicks. Watch face retains fine white coloration with vibrant graphics. Waltham was the first American company to bring massed produced watches to market and is generally considered our country's most important maker. Their production line spanned many themes from generic to specialized and this extremely scarce baseball example is the first we have brought to auction and one of only a handful known to exist: EX-EX/MT
