Description: 1939 Joe McCarthy Baseball Writer's Association award plaque. Substantive presentational award plaque was presented to New York Yankees manager Joe McCarthy in honor of his three consecutive World Championships with the Yankees. Mahogany plaque measuring 13"x17" has an applied silverplated relief facade picturing a bust image of McCarthy superimposed over Yankee stadium. Titled in raised lettering, "To Joseph Vincent McCarthy in Recognition of his noteworthy accomplishment in leading New York Yankees to three consecutive World Titles" and "Outstanding Achievement in 1939" on a smaller placard beneath. The piece remains in very fine overall condition with only some light surface wear and minor scratching.
