Description: Scarce "Town Ball" style baseball bat c.1860s. Very scarce relic from baseball's infancy, 32" long black walnut bat with two graduated flat sides and small tapered knob exhibits heavy evident use including indentations and surface wear throughout. Very similar in construction to its forerunner, the "Massachusetts Style" baseball bat c.1850-60s, as described in Lovett's book "Old Boston Boys and Games They Played" c.1906 on pages 134-135.
