Description: Superb Joe Namath New York Jets professional model jersey c.1970-73. Perhaps no other player surpassed the showmanship and popularity of New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath during the 1960-70s era. The grace with which he passed the football was equaled only by his bold persona off the field. Namath became the face of the AFL during the mid to late 1960s era leading the Jets to the title in 1968 along with numerous individual honors. Most notably, Namath brashly guaranteed a victory for his NY Jets in Super Bowl III against the heavily favored Baltimore Colts and then delivered on his promise with a legendary victory. Offered is a spectacular Joe Namath New York Jets professional model jersey in kelly green durene with white striping and sleeve termination. Original "12" remains affixed to front, sleeves, and back of the jersey with ""Namath"" nameplate on the back. Sand Knit manufacturer's tagging is found attached to the interior of the crotch flap along with the "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the New York Jets" tagging. The jersey condition is nothing short of exemplary with evident usage and wash wear throughout, most notably to the numerals on both front and back, which show heavy wash wear and surface contact. Original hand warming pocket on the front of the shirt remains intact and the jersey shows one period team repair to a small hole on the back near the "1" in 12. This particular jersey was obtained in the period by a primary affiliate of the team and is being offered for the first time publicly within this auction. With note to the scant few authentic New York Jets Joe Namath jerseys to have been offered previously, we would submit that this particular example must be considered among the finest of that group. Its condition, dating period, usage traits, and impeccable provenance are virtually unimprovable. Substantive rarity from an iconic figure in American sports culture. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions, and letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX
