Description: Rare 1954 Wilson Franks store display. The Wilson Franks set is among the scarcest and most sought after card issues of the 1950's. In the era dominated by more widely distributed bubble-gum card sets featuring hundreds of players, this modest sized regional set of only twenty cards may have trumped them all with it's graceful design, vibrant color and potent player selection. This 12"x24 1/4" point of purchase store display features the entire 1954 Wilson Franks set in the form of an uncut sheet adhered to a rigid cardboard backing as issued by the Wilson Franks company. At the top, a separate section printed with advertising text reads, "This is a Complete Set of Wilson Baseball Player Cards One Card Packed in Every 1lb. Package of Wilson Franks...Start Saving Now!". The back retains its original cardboard easel standee. The piece shows mild wear, mostly relegated to the corners and edges, with the card sheet showing no readily apparent condition defects. Intense scrutiny however, does reveal an almost undetectable scattering of miniscule specks of white paint (mentioned for complete accuracy) and faint surface creasing to the Nellie Fox card at the lower left corner as well as on the neighboring card of Ray Jablonski. The all-important Ted Williams card is centrally featured amongst the vibrant array of brilliantly colored cards that comprise the complete 1954 Wilson Franks card series. This is an immensely attractive and supremely scarce display piece that easily ranks among the finest post-war baseball card related advertising pieces extant: EX
