Description: Rare Arts and Crafts parlor suite with baseball decoration c.1910-15. Believed to be one of only three original intact sets, the offered group of baseball decorative antiquities consists of a settee bench, Morris style armchair, and Morris style rocking chair. All three mission oak pieces were fashioned in the manner of the Arts and Crafts movement during the first quarter of the 20th century. The simplicity of design is equaled by timeless lines and decorative carved baseball scenes in the top back slats. The carvings on each piece retain a portion of the original painted details, including adornments to the uniforms and facial features. The representation of the game of baseball within the design elements exemplifies the unique and substantive influence that the game enjoyed throughout the country during the early part of the last century. Overall condition of the set is very fine retaining original surface with baseball themed upholstery (modern). Based on the geographical location of the majority of known individual exemplars, it is widely believed that this set was originally crafted in the New York region. Measurements of the individual pieces are as follows: Settee: 40" wide, Morris chair: 39" tall, Morris rocker: 33" tall. Very rare and quite possibly unique opportunity to acquire a fully intact set of a highly regarded baseball related decorative ensemble: EX
