Lot Number: 365

Description: Fine Walter Johnson presentational fish set c.1920s. Black leather tooled casing with "Walter Johnson" in gilt lettering on the exterior lid contains a two piece silver set used for serving fish. The knife is inscribed with "Best Wishes Walter Johnson" facsimile signature along with "W" for Washington Senators and an incised image of Johnson pitching. The matching fork has an engraved baseball on the front as well. Both pieces in the set feature ivory handles and are appropriately hallmarked with English silver stampings. "Murgatroyd & Horsfall, Halifax" manufacturer/retailer label remains affixed to interior lid lining. While the original purpose for their production is unclear, it is certain that given the quality and expense of such items during the period, they were presumably limited in production if not literally unique: Case: EX, Set: NM
