Description: 1909 program cover for a dinner given by John Heydler and Harry Pulliam and 1909 Harry Pulliam "In Memoriam" card. Harry Pulliam was elected NL president in 1903, helping to forge a peace between the AL and NL that resulted in the National Agreement that governed baseball through 1920. Pulliam had a nervous temperament, and proved unable to cope with criticism. In February 1909, he began to show signs of mental illness, and tragically, on July 25, 1909, he committed suicide. Offered here is an ornately printed 8"x10 1/2" program cover for a dinner hosted by Heydler and Pulliam on Feb. 16, 1909. Accompanying is a 4 1/2"x6 1/2" card issued in tribute to Harry Pulliam after his death on Oct. 8, 1909 "By order of the National Commission - B.B. Johnson, John A. Heydler, Aug. Herrmann and John E. Bruce." The date of the card coincides with the first game of the 1909 World Series and provides a directive that a similar card be printed each year in Pulliam's honor. Card has paper residue on the back from scrapbook removal: Program cover: EX, Card: VG-EX
