Lot Number: 580

Description: Fine 1949 Pee Wee Reese Brooklyn Dodgers home jersey. Home white Brooklyn Dodgers jersey worn by Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese is a "Palm Beach" style warm weather flannel with "Dodgers" team name across the front. Original #1 remains affixed to the reverse and MacGregor/Goldsmith labeling remains inside the collar alongside "Reese 1" chain stitched strip tag. "Set 1 1949" flag tag is found inside the tail front. The jersey displays beautifully with evident use while retaining fine original color to the lettering and numerals. The 1949 season is considered one of the finest of Reese's career, in which the perennial All-Star shortstop compiled career highs in a number of categories including runs, home runs, and fielding percentage. The offered jersey was originally given by Reese to a neighbor in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (along with a number of other items incl. the hat in lot 581). The shirt has remained within the family of the original recipient until its current offering and is without question one of the finest Reese jerseys to enter the marketplace. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and letter of provenance from the family: EX-EX/MT
