Lot Number: 478

Description: 1999 Wade Boggs auto. Tampa Bay Devil Rays professional model home jersey from 3,000th career hit game. White knit shirt features Devil Rays lettering and Devil Ray logo on front with player #12 on back. Embroidered Devil Rays patch appears on left sleeve and Boggs' name is stitched on nameplate on the back. Russell tagging is stitched on the front tail noting size "48" with two attached flag tags noting "100% polyester" and "2' extra length". This jersey was worn by Boggs during the single game in which he garnered his 2,998th, 2,999th and 3,000th career hits on August 7, 1999 versus the Cleveland Indians at Tropicana Field. Boggs' 2,998th that day was a bases loaded run-scoring single in the third off of Charles Nagy between first and second for a run-scoring single. He struck again off Nagy in the fifth, slapping a 1-and-1 pitch to right for another run-scoring single for #2,999. The crowning blow came in the sixth, with Tropicana Field pulsating with excitement and the clock reading 9:08, as he drove a 2-and-2 pitch from left-hander Chris Haney into the rightfield seats for a two-run homer. Boggs became the first member of the 3,000 Hit Club who homered to get in. Boggs has signed the back of this jersey with his added notation "Jersey From 3000 Hit Game Hit #2,999". This clearly indicates that Boggs wore a different jersey later in that game when he got his 3,000th hit. Jersey shows moderate usage wear including some infield clay staining. Includes letter of provenance from Wade Boggs with additional LOAs from Hunt Auctions (jersey) and JSA (auto.): EX-MT
