Description: Collection of Ty Cobb's personal effects given by Cobb to biographer Al Stump. While collaborating on Cobb's biography "My Life in Baseball" in 1960, the book's author Al Stump became close friends with his subject and received numerous gifts from the baseball legend. This group of (8) Cobb personal effects received by Stump includes the following: 1.) Lorillard two-handled "Tiger" brand tobacco tin with Tiger head graphics on each end and product graphic on lid. "Cobb" is stenciled in aged white paint on the underside of the lid; 2.) A shaving straight razor with initials "TRC" on blade arm with original box; 3.) A leather razor strap embossed "Prop. of Ty Cobb"; 4.) A leather tobacco pouch embossed with initials "TRC"; 5.) A corn cob pipepurportedly given to Cobb by Douglas MacArthur and documented by Stump; 6.) A black and gold fountain pen with engraved "Tyrus R. Cobb"; 7.) A vintage photo of Cobb wearing Japanese kimono/robe; 8.) Original photo of Cobb giving batting instructions to a group of young boys. Also included with the lot is a copy of Stump's book "My Life in Baseball, The True Record" inscribed by the author "For Barrie Sullivan, Collector of some fine Ty Cobb possessions, who can now add this book - Best Wishes Al Stump Oct. 1981". The group is accompanied by copies of correspondence between Stump and Mr. Sullivan, detailing the provenance of these items.
