Description:“The Hit Heard ‘Round The World” - Mike Stratton Buffalo Bills professional model jersey attributed to 1964 AFL Championship game. Blue durene jersey has number “58” on the front, back, and shoulders and there is a “Stratton” nameplate across the back. Three-quarter length sleeves, with red and white accent stripes, have sewn in elbow reinforcements. Rawlings (size 50) tag is in the tail along with a wash instruction tag. Strong use and wash wear are evident throughout and there are a number of period team repairs. As referenced by the Buffalo Bills Alumni Foundation, the shirt was given by Mike Stratton to a locker room attendant following the 1964 AFL Championship game and is attributed to use in that contest which was won by Buffalo. In what is now an iconic play Stratton laid a hard hit on Chargers running back Keith Lincoln which broke a rib and forced him the sidelines. The severely hindered San Diego offense, already lacking receiver Lance Alworth, was unable to make up for his absence. The play has become known as “The Hit Heard ‘Round The World.” A notably rare early AFL jersey (one of only a handful we have ever offered) with direct attribution to a notable game and famed play. The jersey has been consigned from the Buffalo Bills Alumni Foundation with the proceeds from its sale going directly to support their important "Cure the Blue" campaign, which focuses on prostate cancer awareness and research. Includes COA from the Buffalo Bills Alumni Foundation, and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
