Lot Number: 296a
Description:Rookie-era Thurman Munson professional model baseball bat c.1968-69 (PSA/DNA "GU 8"). Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Munson facsimile signature in the barrel measures 35" long and weighs 31.7oz. Model number "S2" is factory stamped in the knob and the number "15" is written on either end in period marker. Nice use is evident throughout with several ball and stitch mark impressions to the hitting surface along with rack streaks and cleat marks. A handle crack has been professionally repaired. Written just below the knob (on upper handle) is "Thurman Munson #15" in vintage ink. The bat dates to Munson's earliest days in baseball and its' labeling period overlaps his time in the Minor Leagues (with Binghampton for the 1968 season and Syracuse for a short spell in 1969) and the (26) games he played with the Yankees in 1969. His first full season came in 1970 and he was awarded Rookie of The Year honors hitting (.302) and made (80) assists from the behind the plate. He would remain a mainstay on New York's roster for the near decade which followed and served as their Captain through (2) World Series Championship seasons. One of the earliest Munson bats to have entered the market and highly desirable with relation to one of the more storied Yankees players of the era. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA (graded "GU 8"): EX
