Description: Lou Gehrig presentational cigarette box c.1940. Wooden hinged lid mahogany cigarette box with marquetry baseball décor on the top lid as presented by Lou Gehrig in 1940. Interior lid is engraved, "To Mary and Bill Merrins From Eleanor and Lou Gehrig June 8, 1940". This type of engraving was evidently favored by the Gehrigs as utilized on several other known presentational pieces inclusive of silverplated catcher's mitt ashtrays of the same period. Stamped by artist M. Hildagaard under the base of the box, 8" long. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and certificate of provenance from Geddy Lee: EX-MTEstimated Price Range: ($3,000-$4,000)
