Description: Roberto Clemente autographed professional model baseball bat c.1969-72. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Clemente facsimile signature in the barrel measures 36" long and weighs 36.8oz. Model number "U1" is factory stamped in the knob which has a period "37" notation referencing the weight at time of production. Uncracked with light evident use (in the outline of batting donut) and some general surface wear. Signed and inscribed in ink, "To Vitin (Victor) , With the best wishes from your brother and compatriate Roberto Clemente". Signature rates 7-7/8 out of 10. The bat was consigned by the grandson of Victor Fernandez Reguero who broadcast baseball games and related news in Caguas, Puerto Rico. In 1972, he travelled to Pittsburgh to interview Roberto Clemente and asked for a signed baseball at which point Clemente gave him the offered bat instead. The date he interviewed Clemente was on 8/29/1972 (written on bat by Reguero) against the Padres when he collected his 2,968th career base hit. Highly desirable Clemente signed and game used bat dating to the final period of his Hall of Fame career being offered for the first time publicly.
