Description:Rare and important Honus Wagner photograph by Carl Horner c.1902 - his most famous image and the basis for Wagner's T206 card. Exceedingly rare original photograph is one of only a handful of original examples known as taken by Carl Horner in 1902. Honus Wagner is shown in uniform, posed in studio, in the portrait which would become instantly recognizable. The image was used in the production of Wagner's card for the T206 tobacco card series, one which has attained Legendary status and is universally regarded as the single most desirable and valuable baseball card (relative to condition) issued in the 20th Century. The photo was found in 2013 in the archive of The Cleveland Plain Dealer where it had resided for over 100 years. At the time it was not on its' mount and had photographers mask and some other production related markings applied. It has since been affixed to a period correct mount (harvested from another ball player image) with the aforementioned markings removed. A few creases and wrinkles which are largely confined to the corners do not detract. All work was done at the absolute highest level of professional skill and with a small (appropriate) amount of inpainting to a few in areas as part of the process. The offered image ranks among the most important and desirable ever taken of a baseball subject and represents a rare opportunity to the collecting world to acquire such a piece. Striking display value with the image portion projecting as GD (on a technical level) and the mount VG/EX with a touch of light natural wear: See description
