Description: Significant 1972 Johnny Bench National League Most Valuable Player Award. Iconic black painted wooden plaque measures 16" across with octagonal silver placard mounted on front. A bust of Kennesaw M. Landis sits atop "Most Valuable Player" titling with name Johnny Bench" impressed below. "Cincinnati Reds" team name appears below and the year, "1972" is incorporated into a crossed bats and ball design. The award does have some professional restoration to several components due to heat exposure from an unfortunate fire at the Bench home some time ago. The oval Landis bust medallion (side pennants are original) and the "Bench" brass nameplate have each been professionally replaced to their precise original specifications. Additionally, the wooden placard has some restoration including to the surface and rear attaching screws. With note to the aforementioned restoration the award presents beautifully with visuals equivalent to its original presentation. Johnny once again led the Reds to the NL Championship behind his second Most Valuable Player award season. In one of his finest regular season campaigns he collected 40 home runs and 125 RBIs to lead the league and was presented with his second and final NL Most Valuable Player award. Includes the original 11/9/72 dated telegram sent to Bench by Chub Feeney congratulating him on being name M.V.P. and letter of provenance from Johnny Bench: EX (With note to restoration)
