Description: 1972 Johnny Bench "Mel Ott Award" for National League Home Run Championship. Significant presentational piece has been bestowed by the National League on their leading home run hitter annually since 1959. Wooden frame (12.5"x14.5") has velvet lined interior portion onto which a "Mel Ott Memorial Award, Home Run Championship, National League" medallion is affixed. An engraved metal placard below reads "Award To Johnny Bench, Cincinnati Reds, 40 Home Runs, 1972." In one of the most productive seasons of his career Bench won his second Most Valuable Player award and helped propel the Cincinnati Reds to their second consecutive National League title. One of a select few examples of this highly prestigious award to have entered the marketplace and among the very best given importance of subject.
