Description: 1978 Thurman Munson World Series ring. Classic 14K gold ring presented to Munson as a member of the 1978 World Champion New York Yankees. Top of the ring has a single inset diamond of approx. .75 carat weight on a blue field surrounded by (21) diamonds placed around the perimeter for a total of 1.25 carats. "World Champions" lettering encircles the ring. One side panel features the Yankees logo with an image of the stadium while the other has "Munson" nameplate above interlocked "1978" and "NY" with Munson's uniform number "15" beneath. Interior ring band has "LGB 14K" impressed in block lettering. The ring band is also stamped "Greatest Come Back in History" referring to the Yankees historic comeback from trailing the Red Sox during the regular season by 14 1/2 games only to storm back and defeat Boston in the famed Bucky Dent home run playoff game. Size 10. Condition remains very fine with some surface scratching under the band area from use. Without question, the most significant 1978 New York Yankees World Championship player ring to have ever been offered at public auction, originating from the personal collection of the Yankees' Captain. In addition, the ring is one of the more significant World Series rings of any type to enter thecollecting hobby.
