Lot Number: 319

Description: 1927 New York Yankees team auto. baseball. For many reasons, the 1927 Yankees are regarded as the benchmark by which all other teams are compared. Their 110-44 record was 19 games better than the mighty Philadelphia Athletics who boasted a roster with seven future Hall of Fame members. The Yankees were led by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, who dominated nearly every offensive category including Ruth's record breaking total of 60 home runs. Offered is a B.Johnson AL baseball signed by (26) members of the World Champion Yankees incl. Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Huggins (rare), Hoyt, Pennock, Combs, Koenig, Collins, Pipgras, and Shocker. Sigs range from 6-8 out of 10 with all remaining clearly legible. Ruth has signed the sweet spot with his trademark pre-1928 quotations around Babe rating 8 out of 10. The ball itself is lightly toned and has a fairly heavy clear coating which has served to protect the signature quality over the years. The manufacturer stamping on the opposite sweet spot has a small abrasion where the clear coat did not take. The ball was originally obtained by Mr. Albert Kefauver in 1927. It was sent to him by a Mr. Paul Marshall whose parents were family friends and had obtained the signatures while the Yankees were in Washington playing the Senators. One of the most complete 1927 Yankees team signed baseballs that we have encountered. Includes LOA from James Spence Authentication and letter of provenance from the family: Ball: EX, Signatures: Range EX-NM
