Description: Significant Sept. 9, 1931 Babe Ruth single signed baseball with home run attribution. Moderately toned Official NL baseball signed on the sweet spot by Babe Ruth. Signature is very bold with wide ink formation rating 8/9 out of 10. The ball itself has evident usage including two areas of impact on the side panels. Period ink notation on top panel, "Sept. 9, 1931 HOME RUN BALL". This date coincides with the annual New York Yankees vs. New York Giants benefit game played at Yankee Stadium to fund the Mayor's unemployment program. According to period newspaper accounts the Yankees defeated the Giants behind an eight inning leadoff home run by Babe Ruth. Amazingly, it was the only home run hit in the game. Furthermore the news account confirmed that AL baseballs were used for the first four innings and NL baseballs were used for the final five innings in which this home run was hit (ball is NL ball). The accompanying photo taken from the New York Times pictures participants Ruth, Gehrig, Terry, and Ott during the game. It is seldom that a home run baseball from this era can be authenticated with any surety and coupled with the outstanding signature condition the offered example must be considered among the finest to come into the market. Includes copy of the game article, copy of the photo taken during the game, and LOA from PSA/DNA J.Spence-S.Grad: Ball: EX, Signature: NM
