Description: Jackie Robinson Confidential 1957 Signed Letter (TLS) Critical of Walt Alston. This is undoubtedly one of the most interesting Jackie Robinson letters to be sold publicly, not by virtue of its length, but rather its content. In 1957, Mal Mallette, a former Brooklyn Dodgers teammate of Jackie Robinson in 1950 and a Montreal Royal (Dodgers farm team) under Manager Walt Alston in 1951 and 1952, was writing a profile of Alston for the Saturday Evening Post. He wrote to Jackie Robinson and asked to interview him for the article. In the offered letter on Chock Full o' Nuts stationery, dated May 1, 1957, Robinson tactfully declines Mallette's request, stating poignantly with respect to Alston: "I have a great deal of respect for him as a man and would much prefer leaving it at that. I am sure you understand why I donÆt want to get involved as I couldn't say too many nice things about him as a manager." Robinson continues: "I hope you will keep this confidential . . . ." A unique glimpse into Robinson's personal (and previously unknown) feelings about his last manager, who led the Dodgers to their first three World Championships (and of course Brooklyn's only one) and ultimately joined Robinson in the Hall of Fame. Accompanied by a letter of provenance and authenticity signed by Mallette. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA J. Spence-S. Grad.
