Rare 1933 Goudey Nap Lajoie #106. The Goudey Gum company made its entry into the baseball card field with a beautiful 1933 set of (240) cards complete with all the star players of the era including Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, and Ott. It soon became apparent to a number of youths and collectors that the Nap Lajoie card #106 was not to be found. As it turns out, the card was never issued in packs. After receiving numerous letters of complaint, the Goudey company produced the Lajoie #106 card in 1934 and sent it to individuals who had requested the card in writing. Due to this manner of limited distribution, the 1933 Goudey Lajoie is considered among the "big three" rarities in vintage sports card collecting. The offered exemplar is a superb specimen with fine centering and minimal corner wear. Color remains vibrant and crisp with no blemishes. Back of the card is equally clean and free of any defects. Exceptional rarity being offered at auction for the first time: SGC 84 NM |
