Description: Early Spalding baseball scorebook with 1886-1891 New England Clamdiggers games (and photo) and (2) 1887 Chicago White Sox games (GD-EX) Early oversized (8.5"x10") hardcover scorebook has "Spalding's Club 4 Score Book" logo impressed on the cover. The interior is filled (every page, front to back) with box scores from games which were played from 1886 through 1891. Many are related to the 1886 or 1888 Newburyport Clamdiggers of the New England League and there is a period sepia toned team photo of them affixed to the second inside page (tear from top about 3" down). Among the Clamdiggers games are three which were played vs. Brockton that included future Hall of Famer Tommy McCarthy before his Major League debut. Many of the players in these New England League games went on to Major League careers. Some pages later in the book also related Clamdiggers games from a few seasons later however these were not New England League games that we can find record of. There are also a pair of Major League games including June 8, 1887 White Sox (John Clarkson) vs. Alleghenys; September 14, 1887 White Sox (Cap Anson) vs. Quakers. Book has general handling and age related wear throughout and the bound edge has separated in places (covers are no longer affixed and some interior pages are loose): GD-EX ($400-$600)Final Bid: $1,132.00
