Description: c.1877 Harvard University Baseball Scorecard Featuring Fred Thayer and Jim Tyng (with related pieces) (GD-EX) Original scorecard issued for Harvard vs. Amherst baseball game has been scored neatly in pencil. Listed in the pre-printed lineups, playing for Harvard, are Thayer whom is credited with inventing the catchers' mask, and Tyng who is believed to be the first to wear one during a game. Displays in very strong condition with just a hint of light wear but there is some mounting residue on one half of the back. Also includes 1876 and 1877 Harvard Baseball Club season passes (VG-EX); an additional piece which is likely some sort of ticket reading "Harvard Base Ball Association (GD); early heavy guage wire catcher's mask which retains a good portion of the original leather padding/straps (mask is from slightly later period and included for display): GD-EX ($500-$750)
