Description: Carl Mays signed index card with original 1920 telegrams from Jacob Ruppert (to Ban Johnson), Harry Frazee (to Rupert), and Bob Quinn regarding Chapman incident (GD-EX) Includes telegram (2 pages) from Jacob Ruppert to Ban Johnson reading in part, "The deplorable death of Ray Chapman caused by the ball pitched by Carl Mays has been officially declared by the District Attorney's office to have been purely accidental...the players of the Boston and Detroit clubs are agitating a strike to banish player Mays from baseball..."; telegram from Harry Frazee to Jacob Ruppert reading in part, "Absolutely no truth in the report Boston and Detroit would strike against player pitcher Mays..."; telegram (2 pages) from Bob Quinn to Jimmie Burke (business Manager and Manager of the St. Louis Brown, respectively) with content related to the incident and aftermath as it related to the Browns. Reads in part, "Hope reports eminating from Boston that Browns will refuse to play New York Club if Mays pitches are untrue..."; Carl Mays ink signature (8/9 out of 10) on 3"x5" index card.
