Description: Interesting lot of Carl Mays related pieces incl. (2) autographs, Conlon photo, and 1919 Jacob Ruppert telegram (GD-EX) Includes (2) sheets of Western Union Telegram stationary which bear a lengthy typed statement from Jacob Ruppert relaying the text of a message he had sent to American League President Ban Johnson regarding Carl Mays and what action was to be taken following the Chapman incident. A pencil notation one the second (unknown whom has written this) states that a copy of the telegram was sent to the Presidents of each A.L. team; sepia toned 6.5"x8.5" photo of Mays pitching which has Charles Conlon's "Conlon Photo" signature/notation and his handwritten identifier on the back. There is a small paper caption affixed to the bottom which explains Mays' throwing style. Light general wear with a chip to upper left corner (GD/VG-VG); 1921 Carl Mays Exhibits postcard (GD); "Carl W Mays Nov. 6th 1936" fountain pen signature (8 out of 10) on Government Postcard (never mailed); Sporting News stationary with 1941 dated typed noted granting permission to use Mays' signture in the Baseball Register publication. Mays has signed in fountain pen (8 out of 10); "Carl Mays Baseball School" envelope postmarked 1936 with the original brochure it contained (this piece has tape/other stains/discoloration).
