Huge 45"x93" felt banner originally hung in the famed Commodore Hotel in New York in honor of the AL Champion Yankees. The Commodore Hotel frequently hosted celebratory events in honor of the Yankees at which these banners can be seen in photographs of the period. The banner is a of a very high quality with applied lettering retaining fine original color and surface. Overall condition remains very strong with a few minor moth holes to several areas, none of which detract from the general appearance. Obtained directly from the Commodore Hotel at a sale of its properties and has not been previously offered to the collecting public. Rare and desirable signed album page from HOF pitcher Christy Mathewson with relation to his service in the U.S. military. Unlined 3"x5" album page is signed in black fountain pen, "Property of Capt. Christy Mathewson C.W.S. U.S.A.". C.W.S stands for Chemical Warfare Service, where Mathewson served as a captain in the Army during WWI. While serving in France, Mathewson was exposed to chlorine gas during a training accident. Mathewson’s lungs were substantially weakened and he died of tuberculosis a few years later in 1925. The signature remains incredibly bold rating 9/10 out of 10. Album page has some light edge wear to the far left from album removal. Mathewson autographed materials of quality are among the most sought after of all vintage HOF players with very few exemplars having entered the marketplace. Sand-Knit tagging remains inside the collar along with the "42-73-Set 1" chain stitched strip tag. Aaron has signed the left sleeve near the arm patch which is repeated on the right sleeve as well. The jersey exhibits evident usage and wash wear including some staining to the white shoulder area and appropriate letter/numeral undulation from washing (also present on the sleeve patches). During the 1973 campaign Aaron batted an amazing .301 with forty home runs. The 1973 season also saw Hank reach the 700 home run mark which, at the time, appeared to be a record for the ages.
