See a Picture of this Item 1001 Rare Yogi Berra professional model catcher's mitt c.1960s. Spalding model #42-707 RHT glove features "Larry Yogi Berra" facsimile signature in the palm area. The glove exhibits good usage incl. pocket wear and flexibility. Back of the glove retains its original Spalding tag (c.1957-70) and has "BERRA 8" written in period ink on the left side. Berra is without question one of the most notable figures in baseball history. In addition to his HOF career on the field, Yogi is fondly known for his famed sayings such as "it ain't over 'til its over". The offered glove was obtained by Joe Pignatano directly from Yogi and is being offered for the first time publicly. Based on condition, usage, and provenance this example must be considered among the finest of its kind. Originally issued on the back of Bazooka Bubble Gum boxes, the offered set remains incredibly clean with brilliant original colors free of any creasing. The cards, as they were cut from the boxes, measure approx. 2 3/4"x 4 13/16" each. Color lithographic cardboard display measures 11"x21" matted and framed picturing the Detroit Tigers manager Hughie Jennings advertising Tuxedo tobacco. The sign retains its original pastel colors and features Jennings' famous "Ee-Yah" quotation. The sign has had some minor restoration with inpainting to the top left and right corner areas and to a small chip at the top edge. The front features a vignette image of A.G. Spalding with portrait photos of the team members on the back. See a Picture of this Item 1049 Rare "Goodwin Tobacco Base Ball Album: Champions 1888". Very seldom offered complete "round" album, as commonly referred to in the hobby, featuring incredibly beautiful Victorian color lithographic album pages depicting the star baseball players of the day. Total of (10) interior pages each measuring 8" in diameter with the two original ball shaped covers intact. Interior pages include Keefe, Welch, Ward, Anson, Connor, Comiskey, Kelly, Mutrie, and Ewing. Pages for the most part remain very clean with the following condition notes: Page #1 Welch/Ewing/Ward/Keefe has some creasing and a small piece of tape reinforcement on the back to a small edge tear; Page #5 with the tobacco advertisement has two tiny surface abrasions and a small piece of tape reinforcement to the binding hole; Page #8 Comiskey has a 1/16" surface abrasion at his neck. With the exception of the aforementioned condition issues, the interior pages remain exceptionally clean with bold original color and only some light toning to the backs. Additionally, the vast majority of the few condition issues described could be easily restored if so desired. The front and back cover pages have had some minor restoration to repair a tear at the binding hole along with a few areas of inpainting to some scratching. Incredible period compilation of six complete silk pillow case premiums all of which are assembled as a singular display piece. Overall size is 44"x67" with subjects as follows: #1: Baseball silk with Johnson, Cobb, Mathewson, Baker, and Speaker; #2: U.S. Generals with Lee, Cody, and Washington; #3: Indians; #4: Flags; #5: Kings and Queens; and #6: very rare Bathing Beauties. The overall condition is notably strong given its age, size, and original fragility; the baseball silk, however, does have an area of toning at the lower right corner and the Kings and Queens silk has a similar area of toning. Both areas of toning are very likely removable with conservation. Remainder of the display remains intact and fairly clean overall with bright original color and has been stitched together from the reverse by a single line of thread. Mounted 4"x6" albumen studio image of the 1887 "Champions of Indiana" team posed in full uniform with early equipment visible. "Bonney & Wallace, South Bend Photographer" is stamped on the mount at the left side along with a light pencil signature. The Greenstockings were a very popular team in the Indiana area during the late 19th century and routinely drew large crowds. Photo exhibits some typical light surface wear with the mount remaining fairly clean overall. "Old Judge Cigarettes" advertisement is printed in gilt lettering at the bottom of the mount. Back of the card is for the most part clean with a small 1/2" abrasion at the center likely from adhesive removal. See a Picture of this Item 1068 1888 N173 Chas. Comiskey Old Judge Cabinet photograph. Very scarce pose picturing Comiskey diving into a base in St. Louis Browns uniform. Image quality remains very strong with original contrast and clarity intact. Mount is clean with "Old Judge Cigarettes" in gilt lettering. The back has some minor paper loss to two areas and has "Burt Kurtz" stamped in red. Kurtz was likely a relative of Del Kurtz who played for the 1887 Greenstockings team (See Lot 1065). The image does have some fairly light soiling spots to the surface in the background area which may be removable with professional conservation. The image surface otherwise has some typical light crazing with one small area of wear to the emulsion.
