See a Picture of this Item 1 Spalding baseball bat display rack c.1910-15. Wooden "A" frame rack was used to showcase Spalding model bats in sporting goods departments. Top rail has "Base Ball Bats" stenciled boldy in black on both sides and remains in original condition. The rack itself retains approx. 2/3 of its original wrought iron bat hooks. The Spalding painted metal sign at the top is an exact replica of an original. Overall height is 72" tall. Hand turned bat of the highest quality exhibits literally no usage retaining its original surface with very pronounced graining. Vertical style decal on the barrel end pictures a young Ty Cobb in uniform. The decal remains as issued with bright original color and only two chips to the surface, including one at the top in Cobb's name. The decal remains in fine original condition with only a few vertical surface scratches on Cobb's body. The remainder of the decal retains its original gloss and color. The bat itself is clean with two very small holes in the wood above the decal which have been filled. See a Picture of this Item 10a Tunnicliff family lemon peel style baseball c.1839. Early one piece construction baseball which originated from the family of Horatio Tunnicliff of Springfield Center, NY near Cooperstown. The Tunnicliff family history in this country dates back to 1783 with strong ties in the Cooperstown area of New York. The Tunnicliff Inn was established in 1802 and remains a popular tourist attraction in Cooperstown to date. The offered ball descended in the family of Horatio Tunnicliff to his great grandson. According to family history the baseball was part of an early display at the National Baseball Hall of Fame relating to early equipment. While it cannot be confirmed that this is the case it is clear that several showcases of early equipment (including baseballs) are visible in period photographs taken at the Hall of Fame (included). Also included with the baseball is a vintage sepia tone 8"x10" photograph taken of the offered ball in which the titling reads as follows, "Actual size photo of original hand made one piece cover baseball used in 1839. Owned at that time by the late Horatio Tunnicliff of Springfield Center, NY, near Cooperstown, NY". The image is incredibly detailed picturing both sides of the ball which match the actual ball perfectly. The ball itself is intact with some period stitch reinforcement (visible in the period photo as well). One panel of the ball has some very slight adhesive residue mentioned for accuracy only. Very early piece of baseball equipment with unique period photo documentation and prestigious family pedigree. See a Picture of this Item 18 Presentational baseball bat and trophy ball c.1870's. Finely crafted rosewood trophy bat measures 40" long and has a silverplated ring (1 1/2" wide) around the center of the bat. At the knob, a unique fitted silverplate acorn style end is affixed to the wooden handle. The mahogany bat has been beautifully grain painted to resemble a rosewood surface. The bat retains its original unrestored surface with two minute holes on the barrel and some minor surface wear. Discovered with the bat is a very early figure eight style presentational baseball. The ball is slightly oversized with an 11" circumference and exhibits remnants of its original gilt presentational paint. Ball retains its original high quality stitching. Both items originated from the estate of a Ben Shibe family relative. In Reach Sporting Goods, Shibe and partner Al Reach built a baseball equipment company of formidable stature. Shibe later went on to build Shibe Park, and along with his family, was involved in the operations of the Philadelphia Athletics for many years. The song "Slide Kelly Slide" was written in regard to Kelly and likely explains the motive for the titling of the sled. Painted surface remains very fine with brilliant original color and patination. See a Picture of this Item 96 Significant Wilber "Bullet" Rogan warm up jacket attributed to the Kansas City Monarchs c.1920-30's. Very high quality heavy grey wool jacket with red and grey trim retains its original embroidered baseball shaped breast patch with "Bullet Rogan" on the front. The patch measures an impressive 8" tall. The jacket remains very clean with some light age toning and a few areas of minor surface wear. Almost certainly worn during Rogan's lengthy career with the Kansas City Monarchs spanning the 1920s and 30's. According to the Rogan family, Rogan's son, Wolbur (now deceased), was a bat boy with the Monarchs in the 1930s. Wilbur recalled that his father, while a coach, ahd received the jacket from the players on the team. Vintage Negro League related uniform objects are exceedingly rare with the offered jacket among the most substantive of its type extant. Mounted 6"x8" image of the U.S. Army team from Camp Stephen D. Little in Nogales, AZ picturing the players posed in two rows with equipment. The front row includes the nucleus for the first Kansas City Monarchs team of 1920 incl. Rogan, D.Moore, L.Hawkins, and O.Johnson. The image remains very clean with the mount having a few period notations (possibly in Rogan's hand) and a few moisture spots. The reverse of the mount features an extraordinarily rare signature of Rogan signed, "Wilber Rogan" along with his street address in Edwards, MO. The signature rates 8 out of 10. Rogan died in 1967 and was not elected to the Hall of Fame until 1998. The signature of Wilber Rogan, to date, is among the most coveted of all baseball autographs and remains missing from almost all substantial autograph collections.
