Significant 1962 Phila. Warriors team auto. basketball signed during the Wilt Chamberlain 100 point game. Seamless model #522 basketball signed by (13) members of the Warriors team incl. Paul Arizin, Al Attles, Tom Gola, and Wilt Chamberlain. The ball was signed by the team on the bus before a game played against on the Knicks on March 2, 1962. Chamberlain was not on the bus as he had taken a bus to Hershey,PA from New York along with the Knicks. The consignor of the ball, along with friends, was in attendance at the game and at halftime won the lucky program contest. The choice of prizes were a large kielbasa or a Warriors team auto. basketball, fortunately our consignor chose the latter. The boys then watched the second half as basketball history was made when Wilt scored 100 points. After the game the boys were escorted by Warriors owner Eddie Gottlieb into the locker room where Wilt signed the ball, "Wilt Chamberlain 3/1/62 100" (Date was actually 3/2/62). Significant 1955-56 Philadelphia Warriors NBA World Championship trophy. The offered figural trophy is the actual award given to Phila. Warriors coach George Senesky for the NBA title in 1955-56. Standing an imposing 46" tall the trophy is comprised of a mahogany wooden base having two silverplated placards attached that read, respectively, "National Basketball Association and World Champions 1955-56" and Eddie Gottlieb-Pres. & General Manager, George Senesky-Coach, Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, Ernie Beck, Neil Johnston, Jack George, George Dempsey, Jackie Moore, Joe Grabowski, Walt Davis, Larry Hennessy". Four chrome plated eagles also adorn the base atop which are three columnar supports having white mottled marble plinths at both top and bottom. A small silverplated athlete figural is situated inside the three columns, above the columns rests a large figural silverplated basketball with "Philadelphia Warriors" inscribed on front. The finial of the trophy is consistent with the fine quality evident throughout the trophy with a 13" tall leaping basketball figural in full uniform. Overall condition is outstanding with only a small fissure repair at base of one ankle on the player finial and a small area of indentation on the back of the base on the athlete figural. The white marble supports and the wooden base are period replacements from some damage that occurred in the period with the remainder of the trophy remaining in its' original state. The signficance and rarity of such an offering cannot be overstated given the fact that this type of award rarely becomes available to the general collecting public. Includes 1955-56 Jewish Alumni Basketball League Award plaque that was given to Senesky which has a photographic plaque picturing Senesky and owner Eddie Gottlieb kissing a trophy after winning the NBA title. The trophy is one of two presented to the the team, the other resides in the National Basketball Hall of Fame as presented by team owner Eddie Gottlieb. Lot also includes a letter of provenance from the Senesky family. Unique offering of an early NBA Championship trophy of the highest import relating to the league's formative years: EX |
