Several men in plain clothes are standing on either side of players and an endearing young girl is seated in the front with a melon style ball dated "99". Toned red and blue stitched baseball of Official Major League quality signed, "Floyd Gardner to pal Roy Jackson". Signature and inscription rate 4 out of 10, ball also has date of 1922 on sweet spot and a few other period notations incl. "To my pal and Friend Jack", Gardner was a star outfielder and leadoff hitter who played from 1919-1933 for various teams incl. Chicago American Giants and Homestead Grays. Considered to be among the finest 19th century baseball decorative arts pieces the offered clock facade is cast metal by Muller,NY (stamped as such w/1868 patent date) depicting several baseball related scenes incl. two uniformed players. Also has several cherubic type children at top and two older statesman figures on bottom under clock facing. Clock facing is moden replacement, 16" tall. Jacket was obtained directly from Ted Williams by former Senators beat writer Russ White at Spring Training in 1969. The jacket was hanging in Ted Williams locker when it was given to White. Early black and white card measures 1 5/8"x 2 3/4" featuring image of Jackson batting which is identical to the pose used i the 1915 Sporting News M101-5 card set. The lettering under photo reads, "Joe Jackson, LF, Chi.WhiteSox" which again bears resemblance to the M101-5 card printing. Card has a vertical crease and some general wear incl. evenly rounded corners, blank back has typical age soiling. Although uncatalogued there have been a few other identical cards that have turned up incl. Honus Wagner and Larry Doyle which was confirmed by hobby veteran Lew Lipset. See a Picture of this Item 1178 Superb Babe Ruth single signature baseball c.1926-27. Near white Ban Johnson AL ball with notably bold stampings signed on the sweet spot by Babe Ruth. Blue ink signature is very large for the Ruth's style at that time with quotation marks around Babe. Signature rates a solid 8-8.5 out of 10. Ball originated from the family of John W. Marchetti who was a graduate of Columbia College in 1929 and went of to work on prototype radar systems including the one used at Pearl Harbor to detect the attack. The ball has been in the Marchetti family until its' current offering and includes orig. ball box. This is the finest Babe Ruth single signed Ban Johnson AL ball that we have seen offered at public auction. Interior pages feature color illustrations of various ship flags and a foldout map. Lined journal pages have a handwritten account of the Tour as seen by Mrs. Callahan incl. daily activities, game related details, and various cities on the Tour incl. Yokohama. First four blank pages in the journal have been autographed by the members of the Tour and many of their wives. Signatures include Chas. Comiskey, G.W. Axelson, Tris Speaker, M.J. One of the rarest and most sought after early baseball related photographic display pieces these were believed to have been given only to the managers and team executives of the teams depicted. Composite depicts a collage arrangement of the (8) American League teams-Boston, Philadelphia, Cleveland, New York, Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago, and Washington. Players include Cy Young, Addie Joss, Nap Lajoie, Eddie Plank, Rube Waddell, Willie Keeler, and Sam Crawford. Managers of the teams are in slightly larger square vignettes incl. Mack, Griffith, and Nixey Callahan with AL President Ban Johnson in the center. Retais original mount which identifies teams, managers, and players in bottom margin.
