See a Picture of this Item 701 Significant Fred Snodgrass auto. letter regarding the 1912 World Series "Muff". Two page typed letter is the most complete known account of Snodgrass' famous dropped fly ball. In the letter Snodgrass admits to dropping a fly ball but takes issue with the fact that he "lost the World Series". He writes, "I did drop that fly ball, a long way from 'losing a World Series'. However, the facts don't seem to matter." Signed in black ink "Fred C. Snodgrass". Insightful document with relation to one of the most infamous plays in baseball history. Typed affidavit regarding a disputed play in a game between the Pirates and Cubs where a force out at second base was not rendered valid. Contract is signed by Branch Rickey and dated, not signed by Hodges as this was his copy. Includes typed letter on Brooklyn Dodger stationary from Branch Rickey Jr. with fantastic content regarding Hodges improvement from the Minor Leagues and readiness for Major League play. In part he writes, "Indications are that you probably need the extra year in an advanced minor league..." and "My Father (Branch Rickey) has expressed a number of times his very great interest in your prospective ability and I know he feels that you have a great future ahead of you." Letter is signed by Rickey Jr. , the offered contract for all intensive purposes is Hodges' first Major League contract as before 1947 he played in only one game.
