"MacGregor" tag appears on the front tail (size 48) with adjacent "XL" flag and wash tags. Extensive usage wear is evident throughout with numerous team repairs. Ameche won the 1954 Heisman Trophy in his Senior year at the University of Wisconsin and NFL Rookie of The Year honors as a member of the Colts the following season. He would play with the team in both their 1958 and 1959 Championship seasons. See a Picture of this Item 462 Johnny Unitas Baltimore Colts professional model jersey with outstanding provenance c.late 1960s. Blue dureen jersey with three quarter length sleeves has blue and white shoulder stripe accents. Player number "19" appears on front, back, and sleeves. "Sand-Knit" manufacturers tag on front tail notes the size, "46" and above is an "Eddie Leonard Sporting Goods" resellers tag. Obtained directly from Johnny Unitas by Duke Hott during a visit to the famed "The Golden Arm" restaurant. At the time, it was relayed by Unitas that it had been on display in the restaurant but was taken down when concern grew that it would be stolen. It remains as it was received with mild usage and a touch of general age wear evident throughout including a small tear on front and general surface "pilling". Upon inspection the "9" numerals used throughout the jersey appear to be period team replacements with vestiges of another numeral faintly visible beneath. The front of the jersey appears to have no evidence of the 1969 NFL patch and is consistent with documented images of 1969 Colts jerseys inclusive of the photo illustrated in the catalogue showing Unitas in similar jersey style. Unitas professional model jerseys of any condition grade are highly sought after with the offered example enjoying very fine directly sourced provenance. Signatures rate 8 out of 10 and there is little more than a hint of light wear to ball. From the personal collection of Coach Weeb Ewbank with a handwritten and signed letter of provenance. A rare period example of the most successful team in Franchise history having claimed both the AFL and Super Bowl Championships. Behind Joe Namath and his famed “Guarantee”, New York defeated the heavily favored Colts in stunning upset. MaxPro clear shell Kineomatic-21 model helmet is a classic style which was made popular largely due to use by some of the great names of the Steelers mid to late 1970s powerhouse teams. The offered example has number "47" decals applied to both front and back; the number which was worn by Hall of Famer Mel Blount. It appears, given a faint visible outline, that these decals either shifted slightly or are replacements however we are confident that the original underlying numbers were the same (47). Strong usage wear is evident throughout the exterior which is covered in scuffs and scrapes. The clips are not original and it is possible that the facemask is a replacement.
