Lid has some general corner and edge wear/chipping and two split corner seams (these having no effect on overall display value). Playing surface inside shows a touch of light wear and there is a ripple to the upper surface which gives the appearance of a crease. A touch of light moisture damage can be seen from the underside. Wooden 35" bat retains an unusually well preserved large Spalding double circle logo along with model "No. XX" and a pair of black ring decorations. Light usage and some general age related wear to the barrel and the upper handle has been scored for grip. Knob has some material scraped away along with impressed/carved markings. See a Picture of this Item 614 Scarce 1910 World Series program (at Chicago). Original program as issued for games played at West Side Park, home of the Chicago Cubs. General wear throughout includes creases, some small tears/chips, a larger chip to lower front (repaired), and scattered staining/discoloration. Some of this has been meticulously reversed through professional conservation during which the pages were also rebound. After winning a pair of Championships in 1907 and 08, the Cubs fell victim to Connie Mack's powerful Philadelphia Athletics in 1910 and would not take home another World Series title for over (100) years. See a Picture of this Item 617 Important John "Jack" Adams 1915 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies presentational pocketwatch. Exceptional quality (23) jewel 14K gold presentational pocket watch by noted maker Howard has "JBA" blue enameled monogram on back of casing. Opens to reveal hand engraved titling which reads in full, "Presented to you as a member of the First Philadelphia Championship Team of the National League 1915" and signed in print "F.T. Stotesbury Chairman." Marked around the edge "E.Howard Watch Co. Boston" with additional "14K" stamping. Although not presently in working order it is likely that a skilled jeweler could easily restore function, otherwise the watch displays light general surface wear with some small perimeter chip to interior face. Retains its original mahogany lidded case having Howard manufacturer's markings on interior. Very fine early piece of championship jewelry as relates to the Phillies Franchise first League Championship season, a feat which they would not repeat for another (35) years. Lead by the venerable G.C. Alexander who produced one of the great season long pitching performances of all-time, the Phillies met Boston in the World Series, noted for the first post-season appearance of Babe Ruth. This newly discovered specimen is one of only four such examples that we have encountered and along with the 1915 Phillies team signed baseball in this auction is being offered for the first time publicly. Bold ink signature rates 7/8-8 out of 10. Ball displays scattered soiling with a touch of light scattered surface wear. Walsh made his debut with the Chicago White Sox in 1904 and would contribute (17) wins to their Champion season in 1906. Two seasons later (1908) he put together one of the finest single season pitching records of the modern era notching (40) wins which is second only to Jack Chesbro's (41) in post-1900 play. Red and black stitched baseball of apparent official National League quality signed on side panel, "Christy Mathewson March 1918". Black fountain pen signature ranges from 2-6 out of 10 with varying fading. Inscription and date below rate 2/3 out of 10. The ball itself has extensive wear including areas of surface damage including heavy abrasions and in one case loss of leather. Mathewson had served as manager of the Cincinnatu Reds from 1916-1918 and enlisted in the Chemical Warfare division of the US Army in late 1918. Mathewson died on tuberculosis in 1925 making single signed baseballs of notable desire. The offered example is a perfect opportunity for collectors to fulfill a highly sought after Hall of Fame single signed ball at a pricing teir relative to its conditon. See a Picture of this Item 639 Rare 1937 Rabbit Maranville single signed baseball inscribed to Walter Kent. Spalding F.Frick Official National/International League baseball (dual markings) has been signed on the side panel, "Best Wishes + Yours in Sport, Rabbit Maranville." The panel below is inscribed "to Walter Kent Jr 1937" and written on the panel above, is "Good Health, Good Luck, Keep your chin up, May God Watch over you always." All of this is done in Maranville's hand. The fountain pen signature rates 7-7/8 out of 10 while the inscribed panels have faded to a touch lesser (6-6/7). Ball displays mild even toning with a hint of light wear. Kent became well known as a young Boston area sports fan when fate put he and Babe Ruth in the same hospital in 1931. Young Walter had a fatal disease and much was written in period newspaper accounts of how he cherished a ball that Ruth had autographed for him. This additional keepsake was retained by the Kent Family, along with the Ruth ball, until 1998 when they were donated and auctioned off to raise funds for a charity. According to the history provided by the consignor, this jacket was presented to them by Rogers Hornsby who had owned the jacket while coaching with the Cubs. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Bottomley facsimile signature burned into the barrel measures 35" long and weighs 30.6oz. Useage wear is evident throughout with ball and contact marks covering the hitting surface below the barrel stampings. There is a large crack in the upper handle. Side writing along one side, in an area where the surface finish has been removed, is faint and no longer readable. While the offered bat falls far short of the weights which are listed on Bottomley's factory ordering records it is a suitable career contemporary example for display and only the second pro model/quality bat of his we have handled.
