See a Picture of this Item 724 Vintage "Clemente" baseball jersey with possible attribution to Roberto Clemente c.1970s. Unusual orange and white knit pullover jersey having applique brushed velvet "Clemente" name across the front with matching "21" on front and back. Light evident use is visible including some soiling to the left shoulder. Based on construction and style the jersey is consistent with manufacture of a 1970s period. While precise affiliation of the jersey is unknown it is very similar in sizing to documented Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates jerseys of the early 1970s inclusive of the examples within his personal collection. Additionally, there were no other individuals within the Clemente family during the 1970s era who would have been appropriate for this sizing (sons were very young). It is also absolutely certain that if in fact Clemente wore the offered jersey as a manager or commemorative player for a benefit team no other player on that "Clemente" team would have been graced with the number "21" on their jersey other than Roberto. To date, we have not been able to locate any definitive documentation or photographic evidence that the offered jersey was worn by Roberto Clemente. However, based on the aforementioned reasoning points it is certainly very plausible that he did wear the jersey for a benefit game or similar event many of which he was known to attend. Intriguing period Roberto Clemente jersey with primary source provenance. See a Picture of this Item 730 Historic September 2, 1966 Roberto Clemente 2,000th Career Base Hit ball (Home Run off of Fergie Jenkins). The Chicago Cubs were in Pittsburgh for a series at Forbes Field against the Pirates in early September of 1966. The Cubs had a promising young pitcher on the mound for the September 2nd game by the name of Fergie Jenkins. Imagine the thrill for Jenkins as he struck out Roberto Clemente in his first at bat and had him bounce into a force out on his second trip to the plate. In Clemente's third at bat the tides turned however as he blasted a home run into the upper deck in right field at Forbes. The very ball was retrieved by a 15 year old Pirates fan by the name of Gary Chick. Chick was invited to meet the "Great One" after the game and in a kind gesture returned the historic baseball to Clemente in exchange for an autographed bat and ball. Official National League Warren Giles baseball exhibits evident use including some surface soiling and impact wear. Inscribed (printed) in blue ink on several panels, "Home Run 2,000 Base Hit 101-RBI R.Field"; "Cubs-3 Pgh-7"; and "Sept-3-1966 Pitcher F.Jenkins Cubs". Date reference of September 3rd on baseball likely in reference to the date of presentation to Clemente by Chick. Although not 100% conclusive, there are numerous areas of printing within the inscriptions which can be attributed to Clemente's hand especially in the case of "R.Field" of which other exemplars are known. The adjacent side panel features a lightly inscribed signature and address from the original recipient, Gary Chick, which may well have been at the request of the grateful Clemente. Remarkable milestone baseball with exceedingly rare primary source provenance and period photographic documentation. Includes letter of provenance from the Clemente family and copy of the original news article picturing Clemente holding the ball with Gary Chick: EX ($20,000-$40,000) $32,500.00

Clemente hit the home run off of Reds' pitcher Jim Merritt which was also his career hit number 2,417 moving him into third place on the All-Time Pirates list. Remarked Merritt after the game, "I gambled with a little dew-drop on the first pitch to Clemente, But I got it too high. Clemente's shot cleared the wall between the scoreboard and the foul pole." Warren Giles NL baseball exhibits evident use and surface soiling with period inscription on side panel, "June 3, 1969--2,417 BASE HIT HOME RUN". See a Picture of this Item 753 Significant Roberto Clemente National Baseball Hall of Fame presentational plaque. Just eleven weeks after the tragic passing of Roberto Clemente, a special election was conducted to determine whether a special waiver would occur to allow his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The result was inevitable with nearly 93% of the 424 ballot cast voting to waive the mandatory five year waiting period and immediately elect Roberto Clemente Walker into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Clemente joined Lou Gehrig as the only two players to have ever been elected to the Hall of Fame before the five year waiting period. Even the "no" ballots were due to the specific waiving of the traditional waiting period rather than Clemente's obviously qualified credentials. Offered is the original presentational plaque as given to Vera Clemente during the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in 1973. Classic tooled leather frame housing the original replica of Clemente's Hall of Fame plaque along with "National Baseball Hall of Fame" incised gilt lettering.
