Applied brass placard at the base inscribed, "Presented by the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company for his Selection as a member of the Sporting News Puerto Rican Baseball Professional League All-Star Team". Central pedestal also has inscribed brass placard, "Roberto Clemente Right Field All-Star 1967-68". Two brass figural eagles flank a central baseball pedestal with figural batsman on top. 19" tall with some appropriate light to moderate surface wear. Clemente had played with the San Juan team for the 1967-68 season compiling a batting average of .382. Exceptional quality ornate medal having "Roberto Clemente" raised lettering at top with red, white, and blue ribbon suspended underneath. Highly important "Gold Medal of Puerto Rico" as presented to Clemente by Governor Luis A. Ferre in ceremonies held in the Salon of the Throne of the Fortress. Brass and enamelwork medal features the Crest of Puerto Rico and is inscribed on gold border, "Medalla Puerto Rico A.P.R.P." Reverse of the medal is engraved, "Otorada 1971" meaning it was granted in 1971. Hallmark of noted Swiss jeweler on back, "Huguenin" along with "0750" gold stampings which is the equivalent of 18K gold. Total approximate weight of the medal is around 3.1 Troy ounces which does include the enamelwork portion. The pin bar is also marked "0750" and weighs approximately 1.1 Troy ounces. Geometrical walnut wooden structural base with inset copper lining having Greek winged figural at center and two handled loving cup at top with figural batter. Applied brass placard on the base is inscribed (in Spanish), “To Roberto Clemente In recognition of his work inside and outside the diamond-The People of Carolina October 1960”. Brass pen receptacles remain intact with one pen missing. Small swivel brass case clock by Semca found towards the back of the top portion. Placard is inscribed, "Presented to Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates in Recognition of Being Named National League Player of the Month for May 1960 by NL Baseball Writers & Broadcasters" along with facsimile signature of NL President Warren Giles. Intricately designed ring with top featuring an inset rendering of Pittsburgh's Forbes Field having inset diamond solitaire of approximately .75 karat weight. "Pittsburgh World Champions" lettering surrounds the central decor. One side panel displays "Bob Clemente" and "21" engraved banners above and below "P" Pirates emblem with the opposite panel having Pirates team insignia above "1960" inscribed banner. Interior ring band is appropriately engraved with "Jostens 14K" hallmark. Total weight is approx. 1 Troy ounce with ring size of 11 1/2. Extraordinary condition is evident with some light general surface wear. Monumentally important championship award dating to one of the most storied World Series in the history of the game and Roberto Clemente's first World Championship. See a Picture of this Item 618 Historically Important 1960 Roberto Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Home Uniform (MEARS Authentic A10). Cream color flannel jersey in classic Pirates vest style form retaining its original team name across the front with "21" on the back both in black on gold color schematic. Rawlings "Hall of Fame Flannel" tagging affixed to tail front along with size 42 flag tag and "Clemente 21 60" chain stitched in black. Wash tag found on inside of tail front. The jersey exhibits evident light use consistent with manufacture and use during postseason game play. Matching pants are included with the jersey tagged properly within the waistband area with Rawlings "Hall of Fame Flannel" tag, wash tag, and "21 34 24ins 60" chain stitched strip tag along with "Clemente" chain stitched strip tag. Pants exhibit light evident use similar to the jersey. Clemente's Pittsburgh Pirates wool stirrup socks of black with gold striping are also included and show evident use. The uniform is succinctly consistent with other documented Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 World Series home uniforms with regard to several factors inclusive of specific tagging. The comparable tagging for Pirates player uniforms is found within the MEARS Authentication worksheets and includes Mazeroski, Haddix, and Schofield. The dramatic walk off home run by Bill Mazeroski understandably overshadowed the excellent play by Clemente in the 1960 World Series who may well otherwise have been voted the MVP. The offered uniform exhibits several specific documentative traits of import: 1) Specific identification to the 1960 World Series 2) Use by one of the icons in the history of Major League Baseball 3) Corroborative use in one of the greatest World Series in Major League Baseball history 4) Primary source origination from the player collection. For the aforementioned and other supportive reasoning this particular uniform is without question one of the finest of its type to have ever been publicly offered. Four smaller batter figurals adorn the base with central Greek athletic figural on pedestal in center and additional batter finial atop a two handled silver plated loving cup at top. Inscribed silver-plated placard affixed to top section of the base denoting Clemente's batting average for each year he won the NL title. Grey flannel vest style jersey retains its original "Pirates" black on gold lettering across the front with "21" on both front and back. MacGregor tagging (size 42)(1964-67 labeling period) affixed within the collar area with "MacGregor Set 1 1966" and dry clean tagging found inside the tail front. The jersey presents in superlative original condition with the exception of a lone button which is a period replacement and mentioned for accuracy only. Overall use and wash wear is exemplary and evident while retaining fresh original color and surface. The 1966 season ranks as one of the finest of Roberto Clemente's illustrious career in which he was awarded the Most Valuable Player award for the National League. Clemente collected 202 hits with an average of .317 while belting 29 home runs in addition to playing Gold Glove caliber defense in right field. The 1971 World Series pitted the American League powerhouse Baltimore Orioles against the National League champion Pittsburgh Pirates. The Orioles featured a stellar pitching staff with the Pirates relying heavily on an exceptional batting lineup led by veteran right fielder, Roberto Clemente. Clemente led the Pirates to a World Championship in a seven game series in which he hit safely in all games just as he had in the 1960 World Series. In recognition of his outstanding play Clemente was awarded with the Babe Ruth Award as the Most Valuable Player of the 1971 World Series. Roberto batted .429 in the seven game series and played exceptional defense as well. He was the first Latin American and Caribbean player to be awarded the Most Valuable Player in a World Series.
