Large format figural trophy as presented to Clemente during on field ceremonies at Three Rivers Stadium. Substantive silver plated two handle loving cup atop a black painted wooden base with large winged angel finial at top. Silver-plated band encircles the wooden base inscribed (in Spanish and English), "To Roberto Clemente for your brilliant sports work and source of encouragement and inspiration for our youth: The Shell Company Puerto Rico Limited, July 24, 1970". The wooden base at the bottom of trophy has been restored and the silver-plated figural components exhibit surface patination to some areas with some surface wear to the plating. Regal oversized figural trophy as presented to Clemente during on field festivities to commemorate Roberto Clemente Day at Three Rivers Stadium. Multi tiered walnut wooden trophy features four brass figural baseball player finials at the base with a central Greek athletic figural in center and two handled loving cup at top. Dual affixed brass placards are inscribed on the front, respectively, in Spanish, "From the Municipal Assembly of Carolina, Puerto Rico Roberto Clemente Day: Athletic Excellence". The bottom placard has the names inscribed of the Carolina Assembly members including President Gregorio Nieves along with the date of July 24, 1970. Notably impressive trophy stands 32" in height with some light wear to the wooden surfaces. Baseball figurals have some touch up to the gilt plating and the loving cup finial exhibits some tarnish spotting. One batter is missing his brass bat. Possibly missing a batter finial from loving cup, although not definitive. The offered trophy is one of the more iconic of the awards Clemente received on that special occasion and was prolifically photographed with Clemente during the on field ceremonies.
