Framed display (21"x21.5") houses an image of the 1936 Yankees starting lineup, a printed caption noting their prowess, and signatures of all (8) players. A large bold "Lou Gehrig" done on an album page is most prominent (small piece of similarly colored paper below covers an additional autograph). Period signatures of Hall of Famers Tony Lazzeri, Joe DiMaggio, and Bill Dickey appear on a clipped sheet of paper (toned tape stains along sides). See a Picture of this Item 311 Outstanding 1943 War Bond Benefit Game autographed baseball including (7) Hall of Fame Inaugural Class Inductees. Red and orange stitched Spalding F.Frick Official National League baseball has been signed by Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, Eddie Collins, Honus Wagner, Tris Speaker, Red Murray, Connie Mack, Duffy Lewis, Frank Frisch, Hank Gowdy, and George Sisler. All are done in period fountain pen rating uniformly strong 8-8/9 out of 10. Ball displays mild even toning and some light use/wear. A clear coat of shellac was applied long ago to aid in preservation and there is a notation across the sweetspot reading, "Old Timers Game 1943." The group had gathered at The Polo Grounds in support of the war effort; the second such meeting of Ruth and Johnson whom had faced each other in a similar exhibition at Yankee Stadium in 1942. The assemblage of talent no doubt had intended effect and this resulting autographed "team" ball is host to some of the greatest names in baseball history. Includes full LOA from JSA: Ball EX, Sigs. Signature rates 6 out of 10 with a light clear coat having been applied in the period. Youth size shoe indicative that it was likely signed for a young fan along with several other unknown signatures on the shoe who may well have been friends of the recipient. Given Ruth+s immense national popularity he frequently appeared in a variety of activities including bowling, fishing, hunting, and golfing all of which acted to increase his standing within the culture of the country at the time. See a Picture of this Item 317 Important Cuban Giants "Colored Champions" broadside with Frank Grant c.1895. Incredible early advertising piece (approx. 6"x11") issued to promote a game played between the Cuban Giants and a local Chambersburg baseball team. Billed as the "Colored Champions Of The World", the Giants were anchored by Hall of Famer Frank Grant at shortstop. Grant, as noted on his Hall of Fame plaque, was "one of baseball's early stars who became an inspiration for future generations of African-American ballplayers." Recently discovered, it is the oldest surviving Negro League related piece of it's type we have handed and quite likely one of the earliest extant. Found within the papers of a poet and author named Columbus C.F. Bonner, the back is covered with his handwritten work. Prior to his rise in politics Castro was said to be on track for a professional baseball career with a fastball so good that he was scouted by several Major League teams.
