A more pronounced area of residue adjoins the knob end which has a large chip. Many of the condition issues noted would benefit from professional restoration and render an example with fine eye appeal. In addition to being a particularly productive period of his career overall, the labeling period of this bat also encompasses Maris' Legendary 1961 season in which he set the single season record for homeruns which would stand until 1998. Desirable all original and complete uniform dating to the Giants National League Championship season. Grey flannel jersey has "New York" lettered across the front and number "6" on back. MacGregor Goldsmith tag in the collar notes size (48) and a "Fitzsimmons" embroidered strip tag is below. "Set 2 1951" flag tag is sewn on the inside front tail. Matching pants bear (3) identical tags (size noted as 40). A custom pocket has been fitted just below the waistline on right hand side, a period modification done by the manufacturer and the first time we have seen this. Exceptional overall condition with a touch of light toning and some other very minor scattered wear/imperfections. Given the lack of sleeve patch, as worn League wide in 1951, it is possible that this was a secondary uniform which went unused and has resulted in the seldom seen state of preservation in which it remains. A notorious non-signer Murtaugh left a wave of clubhouse and secretarial autographed material in the marketplace and his signature is far more uncommon than nearly any other prominent figure who spent so long a time involved in the game. Ornate handled teapot has been engraved on the front, "All Star Game, Briggs Stadium - Detroit, July 10, 1951, Bob Lemon." The piece stands approx. 9.5" tall and is marked, "Gorham Sterling" on the underside. Hint of light tarnish and no mentionable wear.
