Horace Partridge “Official Partridge League” model baseball signed across the sweet spot by Babe Ruth and on a side panel by Lou Gehrig. Ruth signature presents in superb original condition rating 8 to 8 1/2 out of 10 displaying beautifully as single signed if so desired. Gehrig signed on side panel rates 6/7 out of 10 with some lightness to the top arcs of “L” and “G” which appears to be due to original skipping of the pen rather than age fading. The ball itself shows moderate age toning with some light evident handling/use wear prior to its signing including a few minor surface scratches and abrasions. Very strong example which is being offered for the first time publicly having been originally obtained at Fenway Park during a barnstorming game at which Ruth and Gehrig appeared. Trio of pieces as relate to the first win of Shoemaker's celebrated career as one of the greatest jockeys of all time to include: green and white silk hat with stitched in likeness of a shoe on back with "maker" directly to the right. In very fine condition overall with light/moderate evident usage wear; helmet insert with considerably more wear visible and manufacturer's stampings largely worn off (size "7" label remains intact); and well worn brown and black leather riding boots with partially visible interior "Kroop's" manufacturer's and size "1 1/2" stampings. Shoemaker is shown in included Polaroid snapshot seated within his home as these pieces are displayed next to him and a notarized affidavit (signed on his behalf by a caretaker) reads in part, "...I have been requested by Mr. Shoemaker to signed below acknowledging that recognizes the tack (helmet, cap, and boots) that are in possession of William Saunders to be the tack that he used for his first winning ride, Shafter V at Golden Gate April 20, 1949." Also referenced is additional history relayed in copy of a Shoemaker signed statement which traces ownership through jockey and Chief Racing Stewart for California Alfred Shelhamer whom Shoemaker had gifted the material. Vintage pitching rubber (24"x6"x6") is accompanied by copy of a letter on "From the desk of Sparky Lyle" stationery which reads (in part), "...During 1974 they started to remodel Yankee Stadium. After the construction began I purchased the pitchers mound from the head groundskeeper who had just removed it. This is the very last pitchers mound before the remodeling began." Metal placard (5"x12") relaying the same is affixed to top of rubber which displays considerable usage wear throughout. "The House That Ruth Built" opened its doors in 1923 and over the (85) years that followed hosted over 6,500 home games. Many of the most notable players in history made their way through the famed New York stadium with countless hurlers standing upon similar pitching rubbers mounted within that very mound.
