The final out was recorded with a Bobby Malkmus groundout to SS Johnny Logan to 1B Joe Adcock. The ball itself exhibits strong usage wear and as referenced in the header for the Spahn Win ball section it is our firm belief that this in fact is the final out ball of the game. See a Picture of this Item 319 Important August 11, 1961 Warren Spahn 300th Career Win baseball. Warren Giles National League baseball exhibiting evident use inscribed by Spahn on side panel, "300" with date of "8/11/61". Sweet spot is also inscribed by Spahn, "Milwaukee 2 Chicago 1". The game itself was a close contest with Spahn and the Braves prevailing behind a Gino Cimoli home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. True to form, Spahn pitched a complete game that day to take his place among the very elite of baseball pitchers in the 300 Win Club. Ranking at fifth overall with a total of 363 wins and first overall among left handed pitchers, Warren Spahn is without question one of the finest pitchers in the history of the game. Given the fashion in which pitchers are monitored today it will be a herculean challenge for any pitcher to reach such milestone marks for wins in the future. It should be noted that a ball apparently used in the 300th victory game (along with one from #301 as well) was signed and sent by Spahn to the Baseball Hall of Fame. In a 1961 letter to Spahn from HOF Director Sid Keener the 300 and 301 balls were referred to as "autographed baseballs" with no mention of having been used as the final out. This information is shared for accuracy only and appears to be completely consistent with the premise that the offered collection of Spahn baseballs were in fact final out examples as described in the category header before this section. Incredibly significant baseball is among the most notable of its type to have ever been offered at public auction with special note to its primary source player provenance: EX ($10,000-$30,000) $11,000.00
