The helmet originates through our consignor from the Philadelphia area where a professional team of that name played in the era with Culp as a member. Well preserved leather helmet with lid fastened to body in (4) places in typical "Princeton" style with unusual factory affixed visor similar to those used in vintage lacrosse helmets of a different type. Spalding Official Inter-Collegiate J5-V football has been signed by (29) including Head Coach Frank Leahy, Heisman Trophy winner Leon Hart, team Captain Jim Martin, and others. Period black fountain pen signatures rate consistently strong 7/8 to 8 out of 10. Ball has vintage "1949" notation written on with "Notre Dame 40 Navy 0" notation below with Hart and Martin having signed on either side for ideal display qualities. That particular game took place in Maryland before 62,000 fans. The 1949 team is considered the last great squad from Notre Dame's great dynasty of the era and one of the greatest college teams of All-Time. Obtained by the grandfather of our consignor and is accompanied by a vintage Lions team logo football. Football bears several ink signatures including Joe Schmidt and Don Shula. See a Picture of this Item 114 Unique Knute Rockne and Grantland Rice, et. al. autographed football. Wilson Official "Rockne" signature model football has been signed on a single panel by Knute Rockne, Grantland Rice, Ed Thorp, and Frank Carrideo with the date "January 6, 1931" notated in unknown hand. Each of the signers has their own import with Rockne being one of the most legendary of all figures in football; Rice - the noted sportswriter who coined the now famous "Four Horseman" moniker for Rockne's fabled Notre Dame backfield; Thorp who was one of the most prominent sporting good retailers of the period; and Carrideo had just lead Notre Dame to a pair of National Championships. The adjacent panel has been signed by then Mayor of New York Jimmy Walker. Fountain pen signatures rate 7/8 out of 10. Ball comes with a unique glass domed period wooden display case. It was, in the period, deflated to allow for it to sit within the case and remains so with the interior bladder cracked inside (thus - ball can not be inflated). Displays limited exterior wear when positioned for display. Unique autographed piece hosting the rare signature of Rockne makes for an interesting and impressive display. See a Picture of this Item 115 Scarce Jim Thorpe single signed baseball c.1937. Off white Hatch Sporting Goods Co. "Professional Model" ball which has been signed on the side panel, "Jim Thorpe 1937". Black ink signature rates 7 out of 10 with a period coating of tape on the autograph area which could possibly be removed with professional restoration. The ball was originally obtained while Thorpe was speaking at high school assembly in South Eastern Idaho by a young man who was the son of a coach at the school. The ball has remained in the possession of the original owner until its current offering. Thorpe, of course, is universally recognized as one of the greatest all around athletes in the history of American Sport. While widely known as a football player at Carlisle and as a US Olympian Jim Thorpe also played professional baseball for several years with the New York Giants. First example we have offered in twenty years of auctions and one of only a scant handful to have surfaced publicly. See a Picture of this Item 138 Highly significant Baltimore Colts Certificate of Membership for Admittance into the National Football League c.1953. Born out of the original AAAFC team the Miami Seahawks was one the most storied franchises in the history of the NFL , the Baltimore Colts. So named -Colts+ after the city+s long history for horse racing and breeding the new Colts franchise entered the National Football League in 1950. After a difficult season and financial turmoil amongst the ownership the team folded but was reborn just a short few years later in 1953. The Baltimore Colts franchise grew to become one of the most respected in the League through their years in Baltimore (1953-83) and subsequently in Indianapolis up until the present. Names such as Unitas, Berry, Ameche, Smith, Wayne, and Manning are just a few among the countless players who have donned the blue and white of the Colts during their franchise history to which the offered certificate confirms its origins. The certificate itself measures 12+x13+ of a heavy stock with beautifully stenciled lettering having hand colored appointments and gilt decoration within the lettering. Titled at the top with +The National Football League+ Old English style font positioned above an early style -NFL+ shield logo. Content of the certificate confirms the acceptance of the Baltimore Football Inc. club into the NFL under its bylaws Co and rules. Signed at the lower right corner by NFL Commissioner Bert Bell in black fountain pen rating 7 out of 10. The piece has had some professional restoration primarily to the lower left corner area to address some surface toning and some areas of abrasion. Some of the lettering in this same area has been enhanced as well. Overall display qualities remain very attractive with special note to the hand colored detail. To the best of our knowledge the offered exemplar is one of only a scant few known to exist. Pittsburgh Steelers legend Franco Harris was selected by the team in the first round of the 1972 draft and quickly assumed the role of fan favorite. He won dual Rookie of The Year honors in 1972 and "Franco's Italian Army" was established by the devoted. Over the (12) seasons that followed he anchored the Steelers Dynasty winning with them (4) Super Bowls and appeared in every Pro Bowl played from 1972 until his last in 1980. He has been named by The Sporting News one of the top (100) football players of All-Time. White mesh displaying evident wear consistent with single game use inclusive of a large grass/dirt stain on right shoulder. Jersey has player number "32" screened on front, back, and sleeves. The quilt has been pieced by Commissioner Roger Goodell and his daughters, quilters local to the Indianapolis area and Irene Gilmore of NY who lost her brother lost her brother, Christopher Matthew Panatier, on Sept. 11, 2001. He worked for Cantor Fitzgerald in Tower 1 (north tower). The Northwest Company has provided the materials, organized most of the quilt piecing and will be quilting both of the offered 9/11 quilts. Hand made patchwork quilt created in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the occasion of the tenth anniversary remembrance. Quilt measures 90"x180" featuring hand sewn 9/11 ribbon patches identical to those worn by NFL players during games played on September 11, 2011. The quilt has been pieced by Commissioner Roger Goodell and his daughters, quilters local to the Indianapolis area and Irene Gilmore of NY who lost her brother lost her brother, Christopher Matthew Panatier, on Sept. 11, 2001. He worked for Cantor Fitzgerald in Tower 1 (north tower). The Northwest Company has provided the materials, organized most of the quilt piecing and will be quilting both of the offered 9/11 quilts. Game jersey from their September 11, 2011 season opener vs. the Dallas Cowboys in which Scott recorded a sack. Green pullover jersey with number "57" sewn on the front, back, and both shoulders. "SCOTT" nameplate is sewn across the back. "19-44" strip tag is sewn in the collar, likely indicating that the jersey was continuing to be used from previous seasons. Jets logo patch is sewn below the left side of the collar, with 9/11 anniversary patch is sewn to the right of the collar. The jersey exhibits very strong usage wear including heavy soiling and staining mainly visible on the uniform numbers.
