Striking original wool jersey as worn by Hall of Fame member Jean Ratelle while playing for the Baltimore Clippers during their inaugural season in the American Hockey League. Jersey retains its original crest (one year style) across the front with skating ship's captain graphic. Black, orange, and white wool sweater displays uniform number 15 on both shoulders and back. See a Picture of this Item 30 Meadowlark Lemon Harlem Globetrotters professional model jersey c.early 1960s. Rare and desirable jersey dating to Meadowlark Lemon's earliest seasons with the Globetrotters which originates from the personal collection of Globetrotters team photographer Steven Goldstein. Blue dureen jersey features a -Wilson+ manufacturer+s tag indicating size -42+ on the left front tail. Colorful adornments include team name "Harlem Globetrotters," Lemon's number 36, and four stars stitched on the front, with Lemon's last name, number 36, and four stars stitched on the back. The shirt shows consistent, even wear throughout which includes minor fraying and "puckering" of the letters and numbers. Today, George -Meadowlark+ Lemon, who holds a Doctor of Divinity, is a born-again Christian and an ordained minister in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, from 1957-1979, Lemon+s followers were on the basketball court, watching as the -Clown Prince of Basketball+ taunted the patsy Washington Generals, or heaved his trademark half court hook shot into a waiting net. Probably the most famous and best loved member of the Harlem Globetrotters, Lemon played in more than 16,000 games for the team, traveling and entertaining fans in ninety countries, including diplomats, world leaders, royalty, celebrities, two popes, and the adoring public. Lemon first applied for membership in the 26-year old Harlem team in 1952 and was given a tryout. After serving two years in the Army he signed a contract and played his first season with one of the Globetrotter developmental teams, the Kansas City Stars. Lemon finally made the team in 1957. In 2003 he was inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame for his lifetime contributions to the game. In 1894, Pittsburgh Pirates team owner and business magnate, William Chase Temple, offered an ornate 30" tall silver trophy cup to the winner of a post-season best of seven game series to be played between the top two teams in the then National League. Played from 1894 through 1897, the Series became known as the Temple Cup and is regarded as the precursor to the modern day World Series. Noted period illustration artist Hy Sandman created this rendering of the 1894 match-up between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Giants which is generally regarded as one of the finest baseball related display pieces of the period. The work was published in several different variations with the offered having been printed in 1897. Titled within the wide white bottom border "A Base Ball Game" it was published in Paris by Boussod, Valadon and Company. The 26.75"x43.75" visible area exhibits subtle hints of light wear with scattered surface wrinkling visible upon close inspection. The most desired and valuable of the various Victorian figural sculptures by noted artist John Rogers depicts a group of three men tackling a ball carrier. The group was modeled after Rogers's three sons and the captain of the Yale football team, William Herbert. Rogers's sons all attended Yale, and along with Herbert, were documented to have posed for studies preceding the creation of the offered statue. The piece consists of a plaster composite with light brown pottery glaze. Rogers's attention to detail is evident in the various nuances of the piece including the players' uniforms and melon style football. Given its original fragility, the offered example remains in fine overall condition with some typical inpainting to some areas of surface abrasion and some relatively minor areas of surface wear including a few chips. Impressed "Football" titling remains on the front of the base with "Rogers New York" impressed onto the top of the base. Spalding & Bros." stamped onto one of the side panels of the "A" frame and an interior support stretcher. The offered specimen remains in outstanding original condition retaining (72) cast iron bat rack hooks and metal casters under the bottom of each leg. Advertising marquis sign at the top is a reproduction and stands 12" tall. Wood structure retains a fine original surface. Image quality is outstanding presenting with strong original contrast and clarity. The photo has a single vertical line crease otherwise remaining in very fine original condition housed in a period gilt frame.
