Lot Number: 1202

Description: Significant 1915 Babe Ruth and father original tavern photograph. Taken on Dec. 27, 1915 the offered image pictures a 21 year old Babe Ruth standing behind the rails alongside his father George in his Baltimore tavern. Babe Ruth had just won the World Series with the Boston Red Sox and upon his return to Baltimore it is believed that he used his proceeds from the World Series to purchase the bar for his father in an effort to mend some fences between the two and this image is most likely the opening of the refurbished establishment. Exemplary detail is visible in this sepia tone image from the glasses behind the bar to the cigar in George Sr.'s hand. Very fine condition overall with a small surface imperfection on the bar in between Ruth and his father and otherwise has only minimal age wear. Measures 7 1/4"x9 1/2" in museum quality archival matting and frame. This is one of only two first generation period prints (The other is in the Babe Ruth Museum, Baltimore) known to exist and is among the most well known and desirable of all Ruth related images: EX-EX/MT
