Description: Scarce baseball game in progress tintype c.1870-80's. One of only a few documented examples picturing a game in progress. The offered example is 1/6 plate measuring 2 1/2"x3 1/2" and captures a pitcher preparing to deliver a ball to a standing catcher with a batter awaiting the pitch holding a ring style bat. Several onlookers provide a pleasing backdrop including a few children. Image retains strong contrast and clarity and with one minor surface undulation.
