Description: Superb figural baseball statue c.1860-70's. Wonderful cast pewter figure of pioneer style baseball player wearing collared shirt, long pants, buckle belt,early sectional hat, and laced boots. Player is standing atop round base with simulated grass surface and is holding ball while leaning on a bat. Retains portions of its' orig. bronze paint with wear in appropriate handling areas and retains its' orig. black marble base. This is the first example of this early figural that we have encountered or to the best of our knowledge to be offered for public sale.
